Debt Relief
Ah, the American Dream. A spouse, a house in the 'burbs, two cars and 2.2 kids. But the American Dream comes with a price, and most Americans end up in debt up to their eyeballs. As a result, they need some kind of debt relief.
Keeping Up with the Joneses
Okay, you have the family and you got the house in the 'burbs. Life's great, but you have this image to maintain to go with the house. Not only do you have the house, but now you have to decorate it. And of course, when the neighbors come over, you have to make sure you have surround sound like they do, Tivo like they do, a security system like they do, a riding lawnmower like they do, etc. This is a phenomenon known as "Keeping Up with the Joneses." And it's this phenomenon that leaves many Americans looking for debt relief. Fortunately, there are now lots of debt relief companies with the right debt management programs designed to help with this.
The best way to get debt relief if you're a homeowner is through a debt consolidation mortgage. This enables you to get a loan from your mortgage company to pay off your credit card debt. The amount of that loan is added to your mortgage, and you pay it off at the same interest rate as your mortgage instead of at the same rate as your credit cards. To sweeten the deal, you can write off some of your mortgage interest on your taxes. Sure, you're stuck paying that debt off over the life of your mortgage, but it's the cheapest way to resolve your debt without any negative effects on your credit report that you might get from other debt relief programs like debt settlement.
If you get a debt consolidation mortgage, your mortgage payment will likely go up a little (maybe $25 a month or so) but at least your credit cards will be paid off. One danger with this type of debt relief program is that once your credit cards are paid off, you might be tempted to start using them again. You're going to have to use them from time to time. That's life. But you might want to check into a little credit counseling to make sure you don't rack up a lot of credit card debt again. It also teaches you how to budget and live within your means so that you won't get into a bad situation again. Besides, you bought everything you need to keep up with the Joneses already, so you shouldn't need to buy as much from now on.
Find the right debt relief company by first contacting many of them. Only after you have gotten a better idea of what the industry has to offer will you be able to see all of those numerous debt relief programs for what they really are. Take your time and get to know the ins and outs of any plan that you are interested. And remember that your situation is unique and just because a certain debt relief program worked for someone else, does not mean that it is going to work for you.
